1911 Building foundation by company founder Franz Bettermann. His own sheet-metal factory for fastening technology is the result.

1932 From here on, metal and plastics are the hallmark of the expanded product range, with the start of Duroplast and Thermoplastic production.

1944 Total destruction of the plant – reconstruction by members of the company.

1952 OBO BETTERMANN is derived from “ohne bohren”, meaning without drilling. This describes the invention of metal anchors, whereby fixing is achieved without the need to drill holes first. The OBO brand is born.

1957 Acquisition of the Neuwalzwerk (new rolling mill) business based in Bösperde and founded in 1827. Expansion into rolled profiles and special wires. The development of the cable support systems to become one of the leading providers begins. The „NEUWA“ integration was pushed forward by Ernst Bettermann in the second generation.

1959 The little OBO man was created as a symbol of a successful brand. He becomes a synonym for installation technology around the world.

1972 The OBO V-15 sets new standards in surge protection and is the beginning of the numerous innovations in this field.

1986 Continuous expansion of the subsidiaries and branch offices from Philadelphia to Beijing, from Helsinki to Johannesburg.

1992 Foundation of OBO BETTERMANN Hungary Kft. near Budapest, which is now OBO’s central production and logistics location for south-east Europe.

1993 Mikhail S. Gorbachev, Henry A. Kissinger and Hans-Dietrich Genscher are the first guests of the Menden Forum, organized by Ulrich L. Bettermann.

1996 The new BET research center, with one of the largest surge-current generators in Europe and countless testing units, is opened.

2003 New standards in flexibility and speed are set through the commissioning of the world’s most modern hot-dip and rotary galvanization plant in Hungary.

2004 After 40 years on the market as DAHL-KANAL, OBO BETTERMANN continues the brand as its own product range. DAHL-KANAL is the market leader in the field of wiring ducts.

2006 OBO continues the production and brand of the company, founded by Albert Ackermann in 1919 and which bore his name. This makes OBO the market leader in the field of underfloor systems as well as one of the leading global system providers in cable management.

2010 OBO takes over the production facilities for electrical products of the precision pipe manufacturer Vincent Wiederholt, founded in 1909, and expands its own activities in the piping sector to close a gap in cable routing

2011 100 years - OBO turns 100 years young and expands. On an area of 30,000 square metres, OBO completes a EUR 40 million, futuristic production facility with integrated, globally unique long-goods hot galvanization system.

2012 Acquisition of the market leader in cable management products in South Africa and de-listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. With the over 700 O-LINE and ARMCO employees on the African continent, the Bettermann group employs over 3,000 people around the world.

OBO Bettermann produces 40,000 articles with 3,000 employees, achieving a total annual turnover level of over EUR 500 million with more than 40 subsidiary companies.
